THE WALL at Trestle Gallery
On View Oct 3 – Nov 21, 2020
"In this large scale wall collage Hoving constructs through the language of decay. The examination and layering of textural information points to a sense of weathering over years – a reference to both the natural cycle of decay and regrowth, but also the accruing of experience as time passes. What then does it mean to shed these layers, and to mark them? Spray paint links large printed photographs on paper as if they were land masses on a map. Hoving destroys and remakes this hybrid topography, positing relationships between distinct places, deciding what should stay and what should go. Each of the photographs used in this collage are taken from places where she has lived in the past year."
